Learning 'words we use lots' in EYFS/KS1
Spelling of High Frequency Words in EYFS and KS1
In Reception, children begin to learn how to recognise and spell high frequency words (words that we use lots), starting with simple words, such as; the, I , a, said, he, she etc. These words are sent home on keyrings when they have been taught.
In Year 1 and Year 2, children continue to learn high frequency words, exploring the Year 1 and Year 2 frequently used words. These are words that we frequently encounter when reading and writing. For this reason, we aim for children to be able to recall these words with automaticity and these words therefore need to be practised frequently. These words are sent home in your child's word word book to learn throughout the year.
