Stanton's National Poetry Week
This week is National Poetry Week and we would like to celebrate together!
UPDATED WITH CHILDREN'S POETRY VIDEOS
Our plan was to celebrate National Poetry Week throughout this week whilst at school but unfortunately we are all now a little far apart. However, do not fear! We are bringing National Poetry Week to you in your homes!
Last week I challenged our lovely staff to record a recital of their favourite poem. This way you will get to see and hear us and enjoy listening to some of our favourite poetry too. Watch the clip below and read on to find out what your challenges for the week are.
YOUR CHALLENGES!
Challenge 1: We would like you to do exactly as we have done. Record a video of you reciting your favourite poem and email it to your class email address. I will do my very best to share these online so that you can see and hear your friends and hopefully enjoy a huge range of poetry too. If you don't fancy recording your recital, just send a copy of your favourite poem to your class email address to be shared online or comment below with the name of your favourite poem. Don't forget to include the author!
Challenge 2: Become a poet! Have a go at writing your own poem this week. It could be about anything at all. How about writing a poem about all the time you have been spending at home? A poem about your new way of life? See a wonderful example by Niah below.
I am waiting in anticipation to receive your poetry recitals and poetry writing. Enjoy poets!
Mrs Anderson
Lock Down (written by Niah)
This matter is a matter is matter of defence
Until those brains gain a little bit of sense
This virus is wrong
People blaming Hong Kong
Its spread so fast
All wide and vast
People are shut, alone in their house
No standing up as quiet as a mouse
Streets are bare no cars passing by
This illness is really beginning to fly
Schools are shutting children at home
Only communicating by the phone
Governments busy signing corona forms
Trying hard to stifle yawns
This drama is getting on our nerves
A never ending road full of bends and curves
Everywhere I go there is frown
The world is actually in Lock Down.
UPDATE- A huge thank you to everyone who has sent in a poetry recital or a poem you have written yourself. They have all been fantastic and we have thoroughly enjoyed watching them. Keep an eye on this newsfeed for your video or poem. Enjoy!
(So sorry the videos are the wrong way round- I haven't yet worked out how to stop them from turning on the website!)
More fabulous recitals. I honestly have not stopped smiling whilst watching these. It is a joy to see children reading and reciting poetry. Thank you!
